Ms. Xiong is a Ph.D. student in the lab of Prof. Manish Kumar and Prof. Andrew Zydney at
Pennsylvania State University. Current research focuses on investigating microfiltration membrane fouling mechanism during the treatment of complex waste stream (flowback and produced water) generated from hydraulic fracturing for unconventional oil and gas development. During her master research in Prof. Tom Richard lab at Penn State, Ms. Xiong developed a nanofiltration-based separation process coupled with acidogenic digestion of lignocellulosic biomass for advanced biofuel production

Current research interests

  • Membrane fouling mechanism in extremely challenging water source
  • Behavior of organic additives and colloids under extreme high salinity
  • Flowback and produced water treatment and management
