Navigating the Academic Job Search: A Workshop for Graduate Students, Post-doctoral Researchers, and Practitioners

A Service of the AEESP Student Services Committee

AEESP 2013 Conference, Golden, CO
Sunday July 14, 2013, 1430-1600

The AEESP Student Services Committee is sponsoring the 2013 Navigating the Academic Job Search Workshop to be held July 2013 concurrent with the AEESP Biannual conference (Golden, CO). Similar workshops in 2009 and 2011 were a smashing success and heavily attended by students and postdoctoral researchers seeking faculty appointments. Past participants received advice from New Faculty Hires, Department Chairs, and seasoned Professors regarding their specific faculty application materials, the search process, as well as job search, interview, negotiation procedures and timelines. The 2013 workshop will provide participants many of the same benefits and more! Individuals seeking a faculty appointment in an Environmental Engineering or Science Department will greatly benefit from attending this event.

The workshop agenda is included on that flyer, or here.

IMPORTANT: Required Participation for Workshop Attendees

Individuals wishing to participate should send an e-mail to Ramesh Goel ( by May 1, 2013, with their current contact information and a 150-250 word statement describing their reasons for attending. Seats will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. See the 2-page flyer linked above for more details.
By June 1st you will be notified if you made the final attendee list. Then, you will have two tasks to complete. One task is to visit the Ideas for New Faculty Members page and answer the questions listed there. This requires joining the wiki as a participant, as instructed on that page. All workshop attendees are required to submit at least one piece of information for each of the sections; this will help you think of new ideas and see what others have to offer.

The second task will be to submit your "model" application package for review by faculty volunteers. See the 2-page flyer for details.
